Wrong to send the elderly out of town
Dear Sir,
While appreciating it does not make fi nancial sense to retain Mountview, on Melton Drive, Congleton, for day care that only uses a small proportion of the building, it is inappropriate that elderly frail users might be bussed to Middlewich if this facility closes.
It seems to me that Cheshire East was not able to completely close the facility in 2014 because of the public outcry and now wants to fi nish the project.
I suspect the low number using the centre quoted in your article is at least partly because many people already think it does not exist or soon will not, thus creating a self-fulfi lling prophecy.
A smaller building within the town would be easier to maintain and heat as long as it was as easy to access as the previous building.
It is essential that it is made clear that no change will be made until suitable alternative premises are found and made ready for use.
The number of isolated elderly people in Congleton who would benefi t from this facility, whether it is partly funded by charitable organisations or not, must far exceed the number quoted, as long as they can be assured of a continued, safe and enjoyable experience.
Yours faithfully,
(DR) PETER HIRST
Middlewich.
