Wrong decision is still being justified
Dear Sir,
With reference to your editorial in a recent Chronicle, the issue as I see it is that a wrong decision was made in 2016 and the political statements and policy since then have been more to do with justifying it than anything else and are likely to continue.
Admittedly the decision was made by the British people and it is this that makes it so difficult to reverse.
No-one can predict the future, though even without our present pandemic it seemed foolhardy for us to go it alone in such turbulent and unpredictable times.
We are therefore faced with making decisions while still conducting negotiations with our closest neighbours on whom we are reliant for help in countering present and future unknown challenges.
All this while we still have climate change bearing down on us like an avalanche that we are becoming powerless to halt.
At some stage the British public is going to demand that the best we can do is form a government of our finest political minds to start reversing our downward path to irrelevance, ruin and global catastrophe, in which I hope the Liberal Democrats will play a part.
Yours faithfully,
(DR) PETER HIRST
