Why taken so long to transfer leases?

Dear Sir, - I note that your front-page article on The Mills Development in last week's Chronicle states "on Tuesday, Cheshire East Council's Cabinet approved plans to transfer the freehold of the market square and the leasehold of Princess Street car park to Scarborough Development Group."

It also states that Coun David Brown, deputy leader of Cheshire East, said that the development was already fi ve or six years overdue when he became a councillor in 1999.

If that is the case, I don't understand why it has taken so long to transfer these leases.

I remember being told it was a stumbling block a few years ago so saying it would not expedite the development makes no sense.

Surely, this is another case of Cheshire East's bumbling causing unnecessary delay to this essential project?

I believe that with a greater sense of urgency, this important development could have been processed sooner. - Yours faithfully,

(DR) PETER HIRST Liberal Democrat Parliamentary candidate for Congleton.
