Vote Lib Dem for a better balance
Dear Sir,
As the dust settles on the recent Congleton Town Council by-election I would like to thank everyone who chose to vote Liberal Democrat and so put us within 39 votes of winning the vacant seat on the council.
This extremely close result shows that there are hundreds of people out there who want change and are dissatisfi ed with the current town council.
A 20% turnout shows that many more felt their vote wouldn't count. We can now categorically say "yes it does"!
A Lib Dem vote is the most effective way to get better balance on the council and hence a better deal for the people of Congleton.
The result, along with our excellent showing in the recent byelection in Congleton East, shows that the only way to beat the Conservatives in Congleton in 2019 is to vote Lib Dem.
Cheshire East Council continues to be in turmoil and the close involvement of a number of our town councillors in previous legacy issues, ongoing investigations and the hard-nosed austerity measures they are seeking to roll out in the future gives little hope that the people of Congleton will get the services and facilities they need and deserve.
The Lib Dems will continue to shine a spotlight on these issues and encourage people to expect more from their elected representatives. We deserve better!
As I read with frustration that Cheshire East Council is trying yet again to fully close Mountview Care Home in Congleton without offering a credible alternative, I wonder how the voices of those in need of public services and support will ever be heard without a change of culture and representation at both Congleton Town Council and Cheshire East Council.
The 2019 local elections are not that far away, and it'll be time to decide: Do we want bus services for all and social care for the elderly and disabled or hanging baskets and fancy paving?
Yours faithfully,
SUZY FIRKIN
Congleton.
