Varied property selection needed
Dear Sir,
I note your interest in the lack of affordable homes in Cheshire East in the Chronicle.
The issue, as I see it, is that developers are mostly little interested in building the modest semis and two-bedroomed houses that many are happy to live in during the early part of their propertyowning journey.
Instead, they insist on building four or fi ve-bedroomed mansions with more than suffi cient grounds that the owners will live in for the duration of their lives, even when their children leave home.
This is the easiest way for them to make the maximum profit for their shareholders.
To do this they manipulate the market so housing availability becomes an issue.
We need a much more varied selection of properties so that moving home becomes more routine as geographical factors, family size and economic fortunes vary.
Yours faithfully,
DR PETER HIRST
Middlewich.
