The advantages of second referendum
Dear Sir,
I feel flattered that two of your letter writers referred to me concerning my letters concerning Brexit and a second referendum in last week's Chronicle.
The main thrust of their missives is that parliament has sanctioned Article 50 commencing the process of leaving the EU so a second referendum is unnecessary.
I feel the referendum last June did sanction triggering the exit process though not the destination; how could it when it is unknown even now?
The reason for another referendum on the precise terms negotiated for our relationship with Europe when we leave is that it is such an important decision that it should not be left to politicians.
Certainly, it would need much more and clearer information than during the first, much better policing by an enhanced Electoral Commission to deter blatant lying and much more certainty about what will happen with each result.
The advantages of this second referendum would be that the people who will live with the results of whatever is decided will be those who decided.
