Still responsible when they leave
Dear Sir,
I don't know whether any of your readers agree with me that it is time Cheshire East did away with settlement agreements that forbid the signatures from discussing their time at the council.
They are paid public servants and as such their responsibilities do not end when they leave the council.
Too often, they leave in a cloud that surrounds them and others regarding some activity that is under investigation or shortly will be.
It is not right that once they leave, they are no longer responsible for anything they might have done or not done during their stay.
In fact, as well as protecting them if they engage in whistle blowing while in the council's employment, their contract should offer the same protection in answering questions during their tenure in the interests of justice.
The priority should be establishing what has happened in any investigation whether internal or external and anything that hinders this process should be prohibited.
Yours faithfully,
(DR) PETER HIRST
Middlewich.
