Sort out toilets before bike race
Dear Sir,
As an outsider might I suggest that Congleton gets its public toilets sorted before hosting occasions such as a stage of the Tour of Britain, mentioned in last week's Chronicle, p33.
Any marketing person will tell you that it is essential that you get your on view specifics right before starting to market your product.
In this age of much competition especially between events and the immediate imagery of digital media, it is folly to attract tourists if you have any imperfections.
I think the challenge is that Congleton Town Council is full of pro-active councillors who do not pay sufficient attention to "details" such as the state of their services when planning image enhancing events.
It is also possible that these same people do not give sufficient attention to their officers or even worse do not allow them to utter wise words of caution.
Perhaps if there were a more balanced composition of councillors from different political ideologies, we would need to keep repeating these warnings.
Yours sincerely,
Dr Peter Hirst
