Responding to MP’s responses
Dear Sir,
Regarding our MP Fiona Bruce's responses to your 10 questions on Brexit in last week's Chronicle I wish to share some comments with your readers.
The main one is around the whole concept of referenda, especially on constitutional issues such as the one we held in 2016.
Without a defi ned process, politicians were able to decide on the when, what and why's to suit themselves without any framework to guide them.
This led to a fl awed process, an inadequate franchise and an extremely ill-defi ned destination.
This would be fi ne if the outcome was again delivered to the people with improvements this time round so that the whole process could be voted on again.
What has happened is that our prime minister has taken it upon herself to force through what she and apparently our MP explain as being the democratic will of the people.
We are now seeing the foreseeable result of this with a divided Parliament, divisions within the two main parties and distrust, frustration and division within our citizens.
Yours faithfully,
(DR) PETER HIRST
