Politics becoming too confrontational

Dear Sir,

I enjoyed reading your editorial in last week's Chronicle in which you lambast our political leaders.

While risking a riposte in these pages, I would like to put in a plug for electoral reform.

Our politics is becoming (become) too confrontational with the added risk of reverting to a two-party contest.

While I know your readers might think "sour grapes" while reading this, we need a plurality to our Party system of politics.

Losing your deposit is mostly symbolic if you can afford it though does signify a threat to minority Parties in our present First Past the Post electoral system.

A form of Proportional Representation where seats won tallies with votes cast would significantly improve our democracy.

Yours sincerely,

Dr Peter Hirst
