Picking on Alsager and Sandbach

Dear Sir,

Regarding the calls in recent years by some Cheshire East Labour councillors to impose car parking charges in the former Congleton Borough Council area: Cheshire East Conservatives have recently approved consultation on how to increase revenue from car parks.

Once again, some Cheshire East Labour councillors, including the group whip, have called for charges to be imposed in Alsager and Sandbach. Their reasoning appeared to be that the former Macclesfield and Crewe councils imposed charges while Congleton borough did not.

However, this not completely accurate. Audlem does not pay car parking charges and there are still some free car parks in Crewe.

In the former Macclesfield borough there are no charges for parking in some towns such as Bollington, Handforth, and Prestbury.

So why are some Cheshire East Labour councillors still picking on Alsager and Sandbach?

Yours faithfully,

(COUN) ROD FLETCHER

Alsager.
