Perhaps result was an emotional reaction

Dear Sir,

If I might be allowed to comment on your editorial in last week's Chronicle concerning the referendum result as I am sure others will do.

It is a lesson to those who benefit from the eu that it is perceived as causing a lower standard of living by many of those who live on these islands.

It could also be part of a larger trend against globalisation and regaining control of communities, i.e. sovereignty.

It is also a lesson to our politicians that you need to bring more people with you if you want to win a one person one vote referendum.

Perhaps the result was also an emotional reaction both to the referendum campaigns and austerity as it effects hard working citizens wanting to just enjoy their lives and perhaps raise a family.

One positive result might be that greater efforts are made to skill and educate our young people so they are better able to compete in today's employment market.

Yours sincerely,

Dr Peter Hirst
