Party is to blame
Dear Sir,
Julie Brown in your letters pages in last week's Chronicle (page 34) asks for the Conservatives to put up a new slate of candidates in Congleton to replace the present "dead wood" ones in next year's elections.
She misses the point that it is the culture of the Congleton and Cheshire East Conservatives that is the issue, not the individuals themselves.
We have ample evidence of incompetence, poor behaviour and political manoeuvring by the present bunch and to expect any improvement by newly-selected candidates from the same Party is to expect too much.
What the people of Congleton and Cheshire East need is some fresh blood and that can only be provided by input from one of the other political Parties.
With all out elections every four years, little can be done to bring the old brigade to account in between these times.
In Congleton, only the Liberal Democrats provide a realistic alternative to the incumbent party, as shown by recent by-elections and we will be taking this responsibility seriously by providing high calibre candidates for you to vote for.
Yours faithfully,
(Dr) PETER HIRST
Chairman
Congleton Liberal Democrats
