Parents should walk to schools
Dear Sir,
Concerning your recent article about safe journeys and parking at our local schools, one item seems to have been omitted.
I remember when I was young, my parents with others organised rosters so that they shared the task of delivering and collecting us from our primary schools.
As well as reducing pollution and congestion around the schools, this helped build some social networks.
I also enjoyed meeting other parents and pupils and it made a rather boring activity more interesting and enjoyable.
I don't remember whether the school, knowing where we all lived, instituted this arrangement although this would have been sensible.
In these days of individual families being self-contained, perhaps the schools could consider something similar.
Yours faithfully,
(DR) PETER HIRST
Middlewich.
