Opening hours at waste disposal sites
Dear Sir,
Regarding your recent article on waste disposal site opening hours in last week's Chronicle I would like to make a few points.
I agree charging for non-residential use is an interesting idea as long as it helps to maintain this essential amenity.
Perhaps the opening times could be better advertised, especially if they differ between the sites.
This would allow people to best use them to fit in with their schedules.
As more close, it is important that those that remain are open as much as possible so that as with a pharmacy there is always one open.
Could more use be made of the phone so residents and others could phone first, especially if it is close to closing?
Making a long trip and finding the site closed is something that should be avoided.
Also, people could be encouraged to share visits, saving on time, fuel costs and carbon emission.
Yours sincerely,
Dr Peter Hirst
