no alternative to a second referendum
Dear Sir,
It is becoming increasingly obvious that there is no clarity about what the electorate was voting for last June besides leaving the EU.
Leaving aside the narrowness of the vote, despite what others will tell you, if we are to respect the referendum result there is no alternative than to hold another one.
In my view the harder the Brexit the more another clarifying vote is needed.
When so many voted to remain and a majority in quite large parts of the country anything else is undemocratic.
Part of the reason for this situation is the political motives for the referendum in the first place, rather than a genuine desire to know how to proceed.
The previous government decided to ask the people so it is only right that the people have the final say on whether to proceed.
Yours sincerely,
Dr Peter Hirst
