NATO position is under threat
Dear Sir,
Chris Watkin makes a number of assertions in his letter in last week's Guardian that are around enumerating our various challenges and attributing them to being a member of the EU.
What he fails to do is paint any picture of what life outside the EU would look like.
One factor he does not mention is relying on being a member of NATO to protect our security.
Remaining in the EU enhances and complements the military security provided by NATO, through its trade, development, justice and crime instruments, which all make it easier to counter terrorism and international crime.
Leaving the EU could weaken NATO, something that even some Eurosceptic MPs agree is a real danger in this interconnected world.
I also think he is being rather arrogant in informing us of what the Scottish people would decide in a further independence referendum if we left.
Yours sincerely,
Dr Peter Hirst
