Men’s rights with abortion decisions
Dear Sir,
If I might be allowed to comment on the discussion in your recent letter pages around abortion rights; it seems to me that men's rights are often dismissed in this matter.
It takes two to tango as they say and barring the occasional in vitro fertilisations, men play a pivotal role in producing the future citizens of our societies.
It is true that women, for biological reasons, loan their bodies so that the offspring can mature suffi ciently to live an independent existence and hence have experiences during that process that differ.
That does not alter the fact that men, as biological fathers, have contributed to the developing embryo and as such should be involved in the decision whether to have an abortion.
It is to be hoped that most women will take their views into consideration when making what is their decision.
Any attempt to remove fathers from this important decision-making process should be fi ercely resisted.
Yours faithfully,
(DR) PETER HIRST
