Lib Dems fight on
Dear Sir,
Regarding your comments about the Liberal Democrats last week, I feel that I must respond.
I am one of the few people who was on Congleton Borough Council at the time. I am still here, still a councillor and still a Liberal Democrat.
I still believe in the preamble to our constitution which states that: "The Liberal Democrats exist to build and safeguard a fair, free and open society in which we seek to balance the fundamental values of liberty, equality and community and in which no-one will be enslaved by poverty, ignorance or conformity."
With the Conservatives adopting a creed of austerity, particularly affecting disadvantaged people, and the Labour Party fast approaching a return to state socialism, it is up to us to continue I believe coincide with the principles of many people in Britain.
We will continue to target fair taxation with progressive increases. We will continue to aim for a fair electoral system. We will continue to demand a fair council tax system with re-evaluation of tax bands.
As you point out, where we are well-known for our record of achievement. We continue to do
Yours faithfully,
(COUN) DEREK HOUGH
Liberal Democrat
