Lib Dems can take the country forward
Dear Sir,
In your factcheck on Mr Norbury's letter dated 15th February, 2018, you are totally correct in your comments that you think Mr Corbyn would not be a good prime minister and that you think Mrs May is not a good prime minister.
You then spoiled your factcheck comment with your tongue in cheek comment of "Who is the Lib Dem leader again?"
It is only a week since Sir Vince Cable's devastating question at Prime Minister's Question Time revealed that the NHS was not safe under the Tories from a takeover by American companies as part of a post-Brexit trade deal with the USA and with this revelation coming just days after president Trump said the NHS was "not working".
Might I suggest you study Sir Vince's speeches and articles together with the policies of the Liberal Democrats, from which I believe you will discover the Liberal Democrats are a serious alternative worthy of being given the responsibility to run this country with policies that address the very real problems facing everyone today? I will just mention two policies.
The Liberal Democrats believe that the people deserve the right to have a second referendum on the actual terms of Brexit.
In recent opinion polls this policy is supported by a sigthose against this policy, which perhaps is not surprising given it was originally a policy mooted by Jacob Rees-Mogg in the House of Commons back in 2011.
The Liberal Democrats understand that the problems of the NHS and social care are linked and that it is imperative that the Government increases funding in both.
As a result, the Liberal Democrats are committed to a policy to increase income tax by 1p with the additional income raised from this tax increase being ring-fenced and spent solely on the NHS and social care - a policy supported by 65% in last week's poll in the (ITALICS) Observer.
Might I go further and suggest you consider attending the Liberal Democrats' spring conference which is being held in nearby Southport, from 9th to 11th March.
You will discover that the age the Liberal Democrats is younger than that of the Conservative and eral Democrats have wide ranging policies that will take this country generations instead of the policies that we currently suffer under this Government.
The Tories' policies of austerity not only fail to work but also condemn the young, poor and disabled to a more miserable future.
Yours faithfully,
ROBERT DOUGLAS
