Independence can be kept in Europe
Dear Sir,
I am fed up with people who should know better arguing that because our forebears sacrificed their lives for us to remain a free country, we should leave the eu.
They did this so we could live in a country that preserved its values of democracy, fairness and freedom and share these with the rest of the world.
They did not do it so that we could live comfortably in our own little island, watching all those terrible things going on throughout the world on our television screens.
They knew that you lead by example and allowed Winston Churchill to instrument often harsh policies for the common good.
We do not live in a vacuum and in a competitive and often violent world, need others who share our values to work with us.
We can still retain our independence within a regional grouping and as such have a much more far-reaching influence on the remainder of the world.
Yours sincerely,
Dr Peter Hirst
