How to reduce our carbon emissions

Dear Sir,

Your editorial on climate change, excellent as it was, omits some important issues.

The three possibly most important things we can do to help reduce our carbon emissions are having less children, stop fl ying and reducing our meat consumption.

They are all challenging but if this is an emergency, surely drastic measures are needed.

We also need to take carbon out of the atmosphere; the easiest method is by planting millions more trees and halt deforestation.

There are other ways of which I am no expert but some like planting ocean plants that absorb more carbon than trees seem safe and worth doing on a large scale.

There are also methods to directly remove carbon from the atmosphere and store it harmlessly so perhaps technology will come to our rescue, having caused the problem in the fi rst place.

Yours faithfully,

(DR) PETER HIRST
