Hoping suitable space can be found
Dear Sir,
It is sad that the deal to save The Vale Allotments for community use is over.
At the end of the day it is the members of Congleton Horticultural Society who are the losers and can no longer invest their time growing food and enjoying physical exercise in the fresh air.
It is a pity that personal animosities got in the way of continuing this good use of open land.
I hope other suitable space can be quickly found to allow these people to continue this harmless pastime and to increase the provision so others can benefit.
I am sure that a better solution could have been found if all parties had been prepared to set aside their prejudices and act in the town's best interests.
The saga shows the risks in pressuring people to do what they would not do of their own accord.
Yours sincerely,
Dr Peter Hirst
