Growing own food would create jobs

Dear Sir,

Graham Goodwin in his letter in last week's Chronicle, p36 eloquently states an issue that is of common concern,

Inevitably, when people have little to do, there is a tendency to commit ant-social acts of varying severity.

The solution is to give them something gainfully to do.

Whether leaving the EU will help with this, I don't know.

My own view is that many more jobs could be created if we grew more of our own food and did so with a minimum of industrial technology.

This is one of the areas where with some planning, employment, health, activity, community and sustainability could all be helped.

Yours sincerely,

Dr Peter Hirst
