Fighting terrorism and staying in the EU
Dear Sir,
Recent terrorist attacks in Belgium and Paris show that more cooperation between European intelligence services is necessary.
While there is no certainty that the attacks would have been prevented, our best chance of doing so is to improve the sharing of data such as fingerprints, people movements and DNA samples between our countries.
This could happen if we left the eu but I am sure it will be easier if we remain within it.
There is certain to be some duplication of intelligence gathering between countries and this will be minimised by the free exchange of information.
I don't see how leaving the eu can help our fight against terrorism and other global threats such as people, goods and money trafficking.
If we pool our police, security and intelligence resources, we give ourselves the most opportunity of countering these threats.
Yours sincerely,
Dr Peter Hirst
