Feasibility of keeping jihadis out is the crux

Dear Sir,

In response to Cllr Brian Silvester's letter on keeping jihadists out of the country, p!7 in last week's Chronicle it is a sentiment that we can all agree with.

As with many similar comments it is the feasibility of doing this that causes concern while protecting our values of freedom and fairness.

There would need to be a legal process to prevent them re-entering that would contain loopholes and certainly cost taxpayers funds.

If we could be certain that it worked without depriving citizens of their essential freedoms, then there is an obligation to protect our citizens and I would support it.

If we left the EU, it is likely that we would be faced with more asylum seekers than if we remain in.

Some of these might be already intent on causing us harm and be a greater threat than citizens returning to this country.

Yours sincerely,

Dr Peter Hirst
