Democracy must remain responsive
Dear Sir, - We are fortunate to live in a democracy where we take making decisions by the ballot box for granted.
It is also as well to remember that despite the recent terrorist attacks, there is far more that unites us than divides us.
All political parties agree on the basic tenets of a civilised society such as respect for the individual, the rule of law and abiding by political decisions made by a democratic process.
Of course, our democracy could be improved and that is something most politicians accept and strive for.
Our democracy also depends on a free, fair and balanced media so that varying viewpoints get an airing.
Finally, it is essential that our democracy remains responsive and politicians of all colours enter into debate and respond to individual queries. - Yours faithfully,
