Covid a convenient smokescreen
Dear Sir,
The letter by Sylvia Dyke on p29 of last week's Chronicle illustrates some of the fallacious reasons many used for voting Brexit all those years ago.
Did she and others like her really think the EU would expedite our leaving and help to make it a rewarding venture?
If the reasons for our "chaotic state" are not due to Brexit, it has played a significant role and could have been at least partly predicted.
She and presumably others also seem to think that leaving would reverse all the myriad of issues that were/are wrong with this country with little, if any, evidence.
I fear that this Government will use Brexit as a reason for the undemocratic decisions she alludes to, with a semi-dictatorship being a distinct possibility.
Covid is a convenient smokescreen for these abuses of governance that themselves probably contributed to, rather than being caused by, Brexit.
Yours faithfully,
(DR) PETER HIRST
