Council’s financial abilities in doubt
Dear Sir,
With a town by-election in Congleton West now imminent and scheduled for November, this is an excellent opportunity for the electorate of that ward to express their opinion of our local political leaders.
Those who read the Chronicle must be aware of the evolving crisis that is the Conservativecontrolled Cheshire East's regular contribution to that newspaper's weekly news.
Appreciating the costs involved in fi ghting a council byelection and that the next set of local elections is only 20 months away, Congleton Town Liberal Democrats decided against calling this by-election.
Now that it has been called, we intend to contest it and hope that there will be a high turnout to show that the present administration cannot take the people of Congleton West for granted.
I do not need to remind your readers of the saga of the visual display unit ordered by Congleton Town Council last year for the town centre that never materialised, causing a substantial loss to its coffers.
This was done by the same party that prides itself on its fi nancial competence, something that must be seriously in doubt now at all its various levels. - Yours faithfully,
(DR) PETER HIRST
Chairman,
Congleton Town Lib Dems.
