Cost took gloss off my lakeside stroll

30 Sep 2017

Dear Sir,

Why does it cost 80p to walk round Brereton Heath Lake?

I decided to have a walk on Tuesday morning as the sun was out and I'd got half an hour on my hands.

Your readers can imagine my surprise to discover that it would cost me 80p for the shortest period, an hour.

As it takes much less than half that time to circumnavigate the beautiful lake and take in the varied scenery, it works out as one of the most expensive walks I can remember.

To make matters worse, I did not have suffi cient cash, the machine did not take notes or credit cards, despite giving the impression of the latter, and I'd left my mobile phone at home.

It was only thanks to a generous lady that I was able enjoy the beauty of one of Cheshire East's major attractions. - Yours faithfully,

(DR) PETER HIRST

Middlewich.
