Contingency pot for school funding
Dear Sir,
Concerning your editorial on school funding: I have no expertise and can only write what occurs to me.
If school rolls increase and funding depends on the previous role, then challenges arise.
One solution would be to have a contingency pot, held centrally that adds to the funds for such a school.
The amount will depend on the actual circumstances of that school as some increases will demand more resources than others.
In a demand-based system such as the NHS, the extra funding will as close as possible refl ect the actual extra resources needed to accommodate the extra pupils.
I suspect politics is too interwoven in school funding to allow such a system to work.
Yours faithfully,
DR PETER HIRST
