Clearly, Lib Dems are gaining ground
Dear Sir,
I would like to congratulate Denis Murphy on his fantastic result on behalf of the local Liberal Democrats in the recent Congleton East by-election.
He polled 542 votes, compared to the Conservative's candidate's 700 representing a swing of 18% increase compared to May's election.
UKIP and Labour clearly have little support in this ward and indeed increasingly in the constituency if this result is replicated elsewhere.
Clearly, the Liberal Democrats are gaining ground by appealing to moderate voters of all persuasions.
This was helped by having a credible, hardworking and well-known candidate.
If a form of proportional representation had been in place for this election, the result could have been even better.
Yours sincerely,
Dr Peter Hirst
