Challenged by the planet's population
Dear Sir,
I read with interest your article under "Church News" on page 12 of last week's Chronicle that various denominations have come together to express their opposition to the Government's two-year policy.
This reduces the benefits available to families of more than two children and is said to increase poverty among those effected.
They are right to highlight the implications of this policy, though as usual the devil is in the details.
A two-child policy aims to reduce the population both in this country and when more widely implemented further afield.
Many of our challenges stem from there being too many of us on this planet.
Anything that addresses this issue while maintaining flexibility to deal with instances of adverse circumstances because of this policy must be welcome.
Yours faithfully,
DR PETER HIRST
Middlewich.
