Bullying response is what matters
Dear Sir,
Concerning your editorial on bullying, I would like to make a few comments.
While all organisations will do what they can to reduce bullying, what matters is how they respond to allegations.
It is necessary to conduct a robust internal investigation and give privacy to both parties until it is concluded.
It is therefore challenging to work out from the outside if there is an issue in a particular company.
What helps is the general culture of the business as this gives a clue as to how they handle complaints generally.
What concerns me about the present administration of Cheshire East is that the culture seems to be one of secrecy, ignoring issues and lack of accountability.
It therefore has a lot of work to do to convince me that its attitude to bullying is any different.
Yours faithfully,
(DR) PETER HIRST
