Brexit impact on NHS staffing crisis
Dear Sir,
Richard Walton in his letter to the Chronicle, 24th May p30, states that Congleton Memorial Hospital is a priceless gem and is in danger of slow strangulation due to lack of funding.
As he acknowledges in the same letter, it is in fact the transfer of staff from it to Macclesfield, to maintain safe staffing levels there, that is the cause of these closures.
This is part of a larger picture of the NHS suffering from a funding and manning crisis under this Government.
The staffing crisis is partly due to a drop in trained staff from the European Union, due to the uncertainty around their tenure because of Brexit.
I remind Richard that the national Labour leadership is presently in favour of departing our major trading partner, the direct cause of this uncertainty.
Only the Liberal Democrats are committed to offering the people of Congleton another vote as to whether the terms of us leaving the EU are acceptable.
Yours faithfully,
(DR) PETER HIRST
Chairman,
Congleton Liberal Democrats.
