Bollards a hazard, not a deterrent

Dear Sir,

I thank Matthias Bunte, P36 in last week's Chronicle for pointing out the reason for bollards, namely highlighting driveways to cyclists.

I would have thought that drivers and others leaving properties would be the ones to give way on a designated cycling route as they are crossing it.

We have similar bollards on St Anne's Road in Middlewich that I assumed were there to deter on pavement parking.

Perhaps they can provide different functions is varying circumstances.

They are certainly a hazard and I hope full risk management assessments are made each time they are installed.

They certainly do not deter cycling and could easily be envisaged as a challenging obstacle course.

Yours sincerely,

Dr Peter Hirst

Middlewich
