Better not to vote if genuinely uncertain

Dear Sir,

While I agree with Clr David Marren's letter about the importance of participating in our recent referendum, it is important not to tar all those that did not with the same brush.

There will be various reasons why they did not cast their ballot.

One of them will be a genuine uncertainty as to which side to support.

With all the inaccuracies, that your paper helpfully identified flying around, I have some sympathy with those who made this decision as a deliberate choice.

Surely, it is more honest to admit this uncertainty than toss a coin mentally and hope you pick the right side.

As long as the voter selected this option after thoughtful analysis, it should deserve respect though I accept identifying these individuals might present a challenge.

Yours sincerely,

Dr Peter Hirst
