A minor increase can cause disaster
Dear Sir,
From what I can gather from the recent correspondence on the highways implications of residential development in Sandbach and elsewhere there is no account of accumulative effects.
Whether this is due to planning law, incompetence or greed I do not know.
The effects of increased housing on traffic are like a river during flooding.
For a long time, nothing significant happens because the system adapts.
At some stage, a relatively minor increase causes complete disaster.
Surely, it is better to predict that and prevent it rather than wait for the calamity before acting.
Incidentally, I support Matt Wood's suggestion of trimming roundabouts to improve traffic flow as long as give way signs are prominent.
Yours sincerely,
Dr Peter Hirst
