A great unifying force is at work
Dear Sir,
Responding to your editorial in last week's Chronicle, we do live in an apparently divided world with our differing viewpoints held as badges of honour to be defended at all costs.
Many, if not all, religions, however, point to an underlying truth that transcends these beliefs, and from the Christian perspective it is found through Christ.
If it is this same truth that all religions seek to take their followers to, then it won't be found in the ceremonies, artefacts and customs that each adopt.
Rather, it is up to each person to discover it on their own, using their religion or not to help them on that journey.
Then, each will come to the same place via a different route and be grateful for fi nding it, irrespective of their particular journey.
If true, this shows that our differences belong to our personal thought systems and we can come together in the knowledge that there is a greater unifying force at work.
Yours faithfully,
(DR) PETER HIRST
