no support for hero immigrant

Dear Sir,

Robert Chilowa, a Zimbabwean national, in February, 2017 ran out of his home barefoot when he heard screams from a neighbour's home that was on fire. A girl who had jumped from the building told him her siblings were still inside. Fighting the heat and smoke, he called up and told the two youngsters to jump and he would catch them. These two youngsters lives were saved but two adults died in the fire. Police and fire chiefs said more lives could have been lost but for his "noble" actions and that of his neighbours.

Instead of being rewarded, Robert Chilowa was told later the same month that he was to be deported and the outsourcing firm, Serco, gave him notice to quit his home after support from the Home Office was ended. Robert Chilowa was also informed that he could not claim benefits or be given alternative accommodation from the local council. It was truly shocking that officials told him he cannot use the N.H.S. even though he risked his life to save two youngsters,

Compare our heartless Government with the French Government.

In May, 2018, an illegal immigrant, Mamoudou Gassama, when he saw a terrified child clinging to the outside of a fourth floor balcony climbed up the outside of four floors, with crowds below cheering him on, and saved the little boy's life. Two days later, Mamoudou Gassama met President Macron who presented him with a Certificate granting French citizenship and President Macron advised that the fire service was ready to offer him a job.

Why is the French Government able to take the correct actions regarding heroic immigrants whereas our shameful Government, with the hostile attitude towards immigrants, does not ?

Yours faithfully,

Robert Douglas,
